New ballot paper

Nearly two weeks have passed since Ireland voted against ratifying the Lisbon Treaty but EU leaders have now come up with a way to get the Irish to vote “YES” in the next referendum.

The have adopted the Swedish model of referendum voting slip which has only three yeses available as a choice for the voters. Ireland will be told to hold a second referendum as they did after the Nice Treaty was rejected in 2002.

The EU would likely need to include guarantees on issues important to Irish voters: taxation, neutrality, a free supply of abortion, cocaine and prostitution (except on Sunday).
